The result - a suave, sophisticated feline called The Pink Panther - proved such a comedy hit with theater audiences that soon the Pink Panther become an animated cartoon of its own. The first cartoon featuring the Pink Panther was titled The Pink Phink and was honored with an Academy Award. The Pink Panther cartoon series is still in syndication and a new animated series began in 1993, a living tribute to the genius of Friz Freleng.
